What does the CFS:Dropbox do?
Many people use e-mail to send files. Attaching a file to an e-mail and clicking 'send' is convenient and easy. However, larger files often get blocked or simply fail to reach their intended destinations. That's where CFS:Dropbox comes in.
Dropbox is a tool developed by Cramer Fish Sciences as a convenience to its clients and partners. It provides a way to send files to CFS employees with the ease and convenience of e-mail without the technical limitations that keep larger files from getting through.
How do I use Dropbox?
Using CFS:Dropbox couldn't be easier. Using your web browser, simply enter the employee's password, select the file you wish to send, enter your e-mail address and a subject and message, then click the "Send" icon. Simple!
Is it really that easy?
Yes! Here's what happens behind the scenes:
What limitations are there? Can I send more than one file at a time?
Because of finite server and bandwidth resources, files must be 100 MB or smaller and there is a 6 minute time limit (whichever comes first, basically).
Dropbox only allows the sending of one file at a time. To send multiple files archive them into a single .zip file and send that. Zipped files also take less time to upload. For a free Windows zip utility, we recommend 7zip at 7zip.com.
What if the file I want to send is larger than 100 MB or won't upload within the time limit (6 minutes)?
FTP is probably a better solution to get your file delivered. Contact the CFS employee directly to get the details you need to transmit the file via FTP. You can view a list of CFS employees and fill out a handy form to contact them via e-mail at the CFS web site staff page.
What if I want to send a file to a different CFS employees?
Every CFS employee has their own dropbox. Simply select a different employee in the pull-down, enter a new subject and message, and click "send".
